Terry Short, Copywriter
Terry Short has 20 years experience as a copywriter and creative director, creating integrated marketing communications for consumer, business-to-business and non-profit brands. He helped establish the London office of the Evans Group (now Publicis) where he developed pan-European advertising and channel communications for Hewlett-Packard and Motorola, and the launch campaign for Nynex cable TV and telecommunications products in the UK.
Terry co-founded Spark Advertising in Seattle (with John Engerman), and currently works as an independent consultant, providing marketing communications strategy, copywriting and creative direction. His clients have also included Phillips Medical Systems, Microsoft, Perkins Coie, LLP, Cray Computer, Onvia, Casarsa Vineyards, Earth Day Network and the United Way.
Terry's experience in traditional direct marketing and advertising enable him to apply strategic and creative fundamentals to online media and help his clients achieve cost-effective results through fully integrated customer and channel communications. John has been designing and art directing advertising and marketing materials for over 25 years. He has served as associate creative director in large- and mid-size advertising agencies in the Seattle area, and co-founded (with Terry Short) Spark, Inc., a branding and marketing agency specializing in technology accounts. Over the years he has created logos and identity programs, print and online advertising, brochures, direct mail, packaging, tradeshow booths and promotions, email promotions and channel sales tools for clients ranging from Airborne Express and Hewlett-Packard to Philips Ultrasound and WRQ. After receiving a Master's degree in education, he taught graphic design at both Syracuse University's Newhouse School of Communications and the Seattle Art Institute.
In addition to creating graphic design, he also composes and serves as music director for live theatrical productions. Working with many playwrights, he has created songs, shows and musical arrangements which have appeared at many of Seattle's mainstage theatres, as well as in cabaret venues around the country. Kendra has more than 20 years experience in marketing, communications, and strategic planning in the for-profit and non-profit organizations.
Most recently Kendra was CEO of Grist-often referred to as the "Daily Show" of environmental news-where she led the organization in informing and engaging the next generation of people who care about the environment. During her tenure at Grist, Kendra spearheaded rapid growth and garnered worldwide recognition for the organization. Prior to assuming the reigns at Grist, Kendra served as vice president of client services at Memetic Systems, a pioneer in email marketing; owned and operated her own e-business consulting firm; lead digital media operations as vice president of digital media for Caribiner International (now Jack Morton) and Watts-Silverstein and Associates; and worked on the management teams of three start-up companies. She began her career working in PR and advertising agencies. Kendra's clients have included Intel, Hewlett Packard, Disney, IBM, Microsoft, AT&T, Alaska Airlines, Nortel, Motorola, Starbucks, Oracle, New Line Cinema, Earth Day Network, Grist, Mother Jones Magazine, University of Washington, Levi Strauss, 3M, Puget Sound Blood Center, Nintendo, and the Experience Music Project. |
